Bookmarks Spotlight: Issue #1

I’ve been collecting bookmarks the way designers collect fonts. Compulsively, and with great optimism that I’ll use them someday. Maaaaybe. Anyway — on today’s episode of “What’s in Florin’s Bookmarks?”…

Toolbox

A look at colorpalette.pro’s palette‑building interface.

Built around the concept of a synthesizer for color, complete with knobs, sliders, and a rewind button for your color history. Supports everything from OKLCH to plain old HEX, generates algorithmically named palettes, and spits out design-system-ready variants with dark mode included. The buttons have no labels, so half the fun is just clicking things to find out what they do.

Fontsssss

Type.lol

type.lol’s clean, scrollable directory of type foundries.

Just got a full rebuild, and now catalogs a genuinely unreasonable number of foundries, typefaces, and designers — all browsable, filterable, and mapped on an interactive graph that shows how everyone’s connected. Fair warning: it’s a proper rabbit hole.

Font Review Journal

Font Review Journal’s minimal interface for browsing typeface reviews.

Fonts are cool. Reading about them is, as it turns out, also cool. Long-form reviews covering everything from workhorse grotesks to display oddities, with the kind of depth that makes you look at a lowercase G differently.

Reading List

principles.design - curated index of design principles from teams and creators.

Open-source library of real design principles from real organizations, from Google to the NHS to Fisher-Price. Good to have around when “it just felt right” isn’t going to cut it as a justification.

The Visual Communication Lab’s reading list for type, print, and visual communication.

Concordia University’s Visual Communication Lab put together a book list covering design theory, typography, art history, and more. Just in case your to-read pile wasn’t nearly long enough already.

If personality and bright colors had a kid, it would be Leta. A vivid reminder that professional doesn’t have to look plain and boring.

That’s it for this spotlight. I’ll be back with more once I’ve managed to clear out the next hundred or so links. See you then.
